Being average is better than being good

Yet another practice of average people getting chances before the better ones do. It is common across the industry to offer a chance to work in a new project (Mostly abroad) to an average person before a better performing one, if they are in the same place, giving the reason that the impact of moving an average person is not as much as that of moving the better one. This contributes a lot to attrition in the current market condition favourable to job hoppers.

Though it is not universal, but happens at most places and when human resource managers, who present chance to work abroad as part of benefits, start to look into allocating people for chances abroad based on there performance alongwith whether they are available or not, attrition rate can be reduced to an extent.

I am a believer that out of the total cases of attrition, there are 80% from the top 20% (in terms of performance and capabilities) and 20% from the remaining 80%.

All the views presented here are my own out of my experiences in life. Any comments or criticism is more thna welcome.

Should ‘DIVERSITY’ be checked in Indian IT?

Though Indian IT is heading towards being more global, does it represent all regions of India equally?

As the fastest going industry in India getting concentrated in very few places geographically, it’s time there should be an evaluation of diversity in Indian IT companies. Assuming that industry can not be physically present in all the regions of the country in near future, efforts can be made for the equal representation in the companies (that will make sure equal representation in the industry) by different regions.

Equal representation is not only required for equivalent growth across the country but also to avoid the problems coming out of regionalism when there is a large concentration of a specific group as compared to the overall strength of workers.

Having issues with regionalism as there root cause, though not so known, is common across IT companies at present resulting in increased attrition rate and lack of team cohesiveness, which also in turn leads to lack of productivity and not-so-comfortable work place environment. A slight modification of HR practices and more attention to diversity recruitment than to cost-saving can lead to better workplaces as well as reduce the friction within the teams and within the organization.

Mentioned above are my thoughts and observations and any comments and criticism is more than welcome.
